1. Design ownership and production partner
Etsy's Creativity Standards allow original items designed by the seller and produced by a production partner under stated conditions. The design must be yours and the partner must be disclosed on the relevant listing.
Enter the partner's production and dispatch details accurately. Production-partner disclosure does not make it acceptable to present a supplier's ready-made product as your own design.
2. Represent the product accurately in the first image
Etsy's Seller Policy calls for your own photo or video content and points to limited exceptions for production-partner assistance. Check the current Listing Image Requirements for your item type.
Etsy's policy best-practice guidance recommends showing the physical item the buyer will receive in the first image or video. For personalized commercial items, do not use a placeholder mockup instead of a finished example.
3. Use additional mockups to explain
Additional images can show angles, colors, size, scale, and use context. Explain what is illustrative and do not hide possible differences between screen color/placement and the physical product.
When applying one design to multiple mockups, manually review every surface. Compatibility, rights, accuracy, and policy compliance are not automatically guaranteed.
4. Prepare thumbnail and alt text for the buyer
Keep the main subject visible across thumbnail crops. Recheck Etsy's resolution and file-type guidance at upload time.
Alt text should briefly explain appearance, texture, scale, and important details to a buyer who cannot see the image; repeating the listing title is not enough.
5. Final policy check before publish
- Original design ownership and required licenses are verified.
- Production partner, production location, and dispatch location are accurately disclosed.
- The first image and additional mockups align with current Etsy rules.
- The personalization example accurately represents a finished item.
- The listing description does not conflict with image limitations.
