Question this guide answers

Move a Canva export into listing preparation without loss, confusion, or policy mistakes.

Etsy sellers preparing digital-product or POD designs in Canva.

1. Choose the delivery format for the product

Canva's official flow supports downloading a design as PNG. Etsy states that shop images can use JPG, GIF, PNG, SVG, and HEIC, and that transparent PNG areas may appear black.

Keep the customer-delivery file and listing preview image in separate folders. Do not treat the preview as the deliverable itself.

  • Record the source Canva design link and export date.
  • Check color profile, transparency, and dimensions before upload.
  • Put product identity, variant, and revision in the filename.

2. Keep the design file separate from the mockup

A mockup helps the buyer see a design on the product. Check how the product is made and whether the image represents it accurately under Etsy’s rules.

After applying a design to selected compatible mockups, manually review crop, placement, color, and personalization examples.

3. Match the listing draft to the sources

Verify title, description, price, variants, production partner, and delivery fields independently from the image set.

You can reuse a saved design, but every listing is a separate product and policy decision. Do not assume copied text or image order is automatically correct.

4. Finish with thumbnail and alt-text review

Etsy states that the first photo becomes the thumbnail and should remain clear across different crop views. Keep the main subject centered with enough space.

Write alt text to explain the image to someone who cannot see it, not to stuff keywords. Then review the listing draft and image order together.

Worked example: a Canva file to a shirt draft

This is an illustrative file workflow, not a customer output. Open a design you have rights to use in Canva, choose PNG in the download options, and save it to your computer. Upload that exported design file to Makaytron, rather than a Canva link. These steps do not require a built-in or official Canva integration.

Keep the source file for printing. Match the design with compatible shirt mockups, review placement and scale, then start image generation. Match the finished images to the right product and colors in the draft. The expected output is a presentation image set separate from the original source, plus a reviewable listing draft.

File checks, cost, and troubleshooting

Canva download access depends on your Canva account and the content used. Makaytron AI, mockup generation, and publishing costs appear in their operation quotes; downloading a file does not include these actions. Do not equate credits with a cash amount; review current plan and operation details on Pricing.

If the background appears black, preserve the print source and export the listing presentation image with a solid background. If it looks blurry, return to a higher-resolution source instead of enlarging a small file. For the wrong color or an old design, check filename, revision, and draft matching. If generation is pending, follow that record before starting another job.
